Health-building diet after the fast
by Stephen Matkin
1. You should eat only NATURAL ORGANIC WHOLE foods. Pasteurized, canned, and processed foods and foods containing preservatives, chemicals and synthetic additives, fried foods, and foods containing refined sugar etc.only bring ill health, disease and premature aging. These foods are one of the main causes of obesity. No matter how much of these denatured foods you eat, you will still feel hungry because your body is not getting the proper nutrition it requires. Especially avoid non-organic meat, fowl and farmed fish or better yet, eliminate all animal products from your diet over a period of time. Avoid all products containing hydrogenated vegetable oils, artificial sweeteners and refined white sugar. Avoid tap water containing fluoride and chlorine. The water you drink should ideally be alkalized, ionized, micro-clustered water.
2. You should eat mostly RAW LIVING foods. Cooking destroys 100% of your foods enzymes. Enzymes are absolutely necessary for proper digestion and assimilation of food. Cooking also destroys many vitamins and minerals and makes vitamins, minerals, proteins and fats less bio-available. Raw foods have health building qualities and are essential in preventing ill health, disease and premature ageing. Try to eat as close to 80% or more natural, organic, whole, raw, living foods and you will notice a huge difference in your general health and your overall sense of well being. Now that you have finished your fast and obviously care about your health and happiness, take this opportunity to start a transitional diet towards increasing the amount of raw foods into your diet. Try to incorporate more green powder drinks, sprouts and seaweeds and wild foods into your diet. These foods have exceptional cleansing and health-building qualities. People who are not used to eating raw foods regularly may find so much raw food at once to be overtaxing on the system. If this is the case, then prepare your food by lightly boiling or steaming your vegetables or lightly stir frying them in cold pressed extra virgin olive or coconut oil. Lightly cooking means that the vegetables retain their color and crispness.
3. Eat a HIGH natural carbohydrates-LOW animal protein diet. Too much protein in your diet can cause an accumulation of uric acid, urea and toxic purines in your tissues, causing a biochemical imbalance in your tissues, which results in over acidity. Other ill effects of too much protein are: intestinal putrification, constipation, autotoxemia, arteriosclerosis, heart disease, arthritis, kidney damage, mucoid-plaque accumulation, etc. Natural carbohydrate proteins such as are found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, sprouts, seaweeds and green powders are far superior to animal protein.
4. Keep a proper ACID-ALKALINE balance in your diet. An ideal balance would be 80% alkaline foods. Alkaline foods being: alkaline fruits, vegetables, sprouts, herbs, spices, seaweeds, and green powders. Acid foods should make up the other 20% of your diet, acid foods being acid fruits, grains, nuts, seeds, eggs, meat, fowl, fish and animal by-products. All animal products should be eaten in moderation and organically or preferably not at all. Of these foods the more fresh raw organic foods you eat the better, a good target being 80%. Fresh raw organic foods have their vitamins, minerals and enzymes in a form that is bio-available to your body. Whereas cooked, processed and poisoned foods have lost the majority of these life-giving nutrients and continually contribute to ill health, disease and premature ageing. Refer to No. 3 in the “Before You Begin” section for an acid- alkaline food list.
5. Health promoting EATING HABITS. It has been proven scientifically that
systematic over-eating is one of the main causes of ill health, disease and pre-mature ageing, whereas systematic under-eating is one of the most important factors in good health and longevity. Consumption of more food then the body actually needs acts as a poison to the system. It is important that you eat slowly and chew your food well in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy what you eat only when you have appetite. Never eat if you are angry, upset or have a fever. Avoid eating in a hurry or “on the run”. Eat your food at room temperature or slightly warm. Avoid hot and cold foods and liquids. Eat juicy foods before concentrated foods. Eat raw foods before cooked foods. Avoid drinking liquids with solids. Try to eat until you are only 70 to 80% full, after a short time you will find that you
are full.
6. SUPPLEMENTS. Until one has completed the major part of detoxing ( i.e.: cleansing of the gastro-intestinal system, transition to a natural health promoting diet, regular exercise and sunshine, etc.), which can take months to years depending on how toxic one is to begin with and also how dedicated one is to the detoxification process, it is important to supplement your diet with various vitamins and minerals as the process of detoxification uses up ones store of these nutrients. Once you have reached a high level of detoxification and made the transition into a healthy lifestyle, then it isn’t necessarily required that you take all the following supplements on a regular basis. However, I would recommend that you take them a few weeks before and a few weeks after each fast The following supplements are not only highly beneficial in the detox process, but also aid in combating free-radicals and are generally health promoting. For these reasons it is recommended that the following supplements be taken on a regular basis: Vitamins C (calcium ascorbate or sodium ascorbate), Vitamin E, Beta-carotene, Selenium, Zinc, Coral-Calcium, Magnesium, Glutathione and Lipoic acid. A glass of Seawater (from health food stores or taken directly from the sea far from shore from clean water), Celtic sea salt or Himalayan salt provide a full-spectrum mineral supplement. If you are using Celtic sea salt or Himalayan salt, dissolve 1/3 tsp. in a glass of water and drink daily. Other natural supplements that are of great benefit in detoxification and general health are: Green powders, Cayenne pepper, Lemon, Apple Cider Vinegar, Treacle, Bentonite, Psyllium powder, Bee Pollen, Royal Jelly and Cold Pressed Flax, Hemp and Coconut oils. If one is on a vegetarian diet, then Vitamin B12 should also be added. Zeolite and Vegetal-Silica are also of great benefit for detoxing and general health. Organic fermented foods are rich in enzymes and promote growth of healthy intestinal bacteria while destroying harmful intestinal bacteria. Rejuvelac, water from soaked wheat, is easy to prepare and is readily assimilated into your system. Soak one cup of wheat grains in three cups of pure water in a warm dark place for 48 hours, strain and keep refrigerated. Use the same wheat grains and repeat the procedure three more times using only two cups of water and soak for only 24 hours. Rejuvelac should taste sweet, not sour or tart. If it taste unpleasant it has probably over fermented. All supplements should be organic and of the highest quality.
7. SUPER FOODS for health and beauty. The following foods contain one or more of the following qualities necessary in maintaining optimal health and beauty: High concentrations of the minerals sulfur, silicon, zinc, iron, and/or manganese; An alkaline reaction in the body; Anti parasitical effects: High levels of antioxidants (especially vitamins A, C and E); Anti-inflammatory properties.
They are as follows: Almonds, Aloe Vera (externally and internally), Avocado, Arugla, Asparagus, Bee Pollen, Blueberries, Broccoli, Burdock Root, Coconuts (fresh water and pulp), Coconut Oil, Cucumbers, Durian, Endive, Garlic, Green Powders, Figs, Flax Seeds, Flax Seed Oil, Hemp Seeds, Hemp Seed Oil, Kale, Macadamia Nuts, Mangosteens, Olives, Olive Oil, Onions, Papaya, Pineapples, Pumpkin Seeds, Radishes, Royal Jelly, Sea Weeds, Sesame Seeds, Strawberries, Turmeric, Walnuts, Watercress and Wild Foods.
